We've just unearthed a great piece of T&G history!
"Air Transat" was the first transatlantic air race held June in 1981. The race had entrants from all over the world fly from Paris to New York to Paris.
Our founder, Larry Rohl, and then recent student, Paul Duffy, represented Cleveland in the race. They flew "The Pride of Cleveland" and finished 10th in the marathon flight. Of the entrants, only about half finished, while one crew was lost at sea, another ditched in Greenland, and another made an emergency landing on an island off of Scotland.
Thanks to Heber (one of the first members of T&G) for putting this together!
Enjoy this look back at flying (and fashion).
